Theme Solicitation
Request for Quality Enhancement Plan Themes - Provosts' Announcement
The following message was e-mailed to all Texas State faculty, staff and students on March 6, 2017:
Dear Faculty, Staff, and Students:
Our accreditor, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) mandates development and implementation of a Quality Enhancement Plan as part of the 10-year reaffirmation of accreditation. But this is much more than a mandate, it is an unparalleled opportunity and challenge to positively and dramatically affect the learning and success of Texas State students. We hope that you will participate in identifying a theme for the new Texas State Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) by sending in your suggestions to the web address below.
Since our first QEP, Personalized Academic and Career Exploration (PACE): A Focus on Freshmen was started over seven years ago, many of you may be new to the concept of QEP’s. PACE generated a far-reaching impact by reconceptualizing and reorganizing the entry of new freshmen. Our goal is that this new QEP will also positively impact how we work with students, better preparing them for the challenges of their lives as individuals, professionals, and citizens.
Take a look at the supporting QEP materials on the Quality Enhancement Plan website (www.sacscoc-qep.txstate.edu/). Then I encourage all of you to think, discuss, conceptualize and send ideas for the new QEP theme to SACSCOC_QEP@txstate.edu by April 7, 2017.
This is your chance to be part of a process that impacts our future students.
Sincerely,
Dr. Gene Bourgeois
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
President's Announcement
Quality Enhancement Plan Kick-Off
The following message was e-mailed to all Texas State faculty, staff, and students on July 20, 2017:
Dear Faculty, Staff, and Students:
As part of our Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) reaffirmation process, we are required to have a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP). During the past few months, the QEP Theme Development Team, which consisted of faculty, staff, and students representing divisions, colleges, and student groups, met to discuss the nature of the QEP and propose ideas for themes. After thoughtful deliberation, the QEP Theme Development Team proposed four possible topics from which the university’s accreditation Leadership Team selected undergraduate research as the theme for the 2020 QEP. Subsequently, deans submitted names of possible faculty to lead efforts in defining outcomes and strategies, identifying resources, establishing a timeline, and developing assessments for the QEP.
I am happy to announce the appointment of Dr. Alejandra Sorto, Associate Professor of Mathematics, and Dr. Sean Horan, Associate Professor of Communication Studies, as co-chairs of the 2020 Quality Enhancement Plan committee. In the near future, they will be establishing a QEP Development Team which will oversee the creation of a university plan to enhance student learning related to undergraduate research.
A website in which the timeline and documents related to the QEP process can be found at http://www.sacscoc-qep.txstate.edu/. Please join me in thanking Dr. Sorto and Dr. Horan for accepting this important leadership role.
Sincerely,
Denise M. Trauth
President
